A packed Banco Courtroom at the NSW Supreme Court listened intently as Dr Mamta Gautam MD, a leading Canadian expert on professional health and well being, spoke to lawyers, academics and law students on the topic ‘Towards Managing Mental Wellness in the Legal Profession’.

Research shows that the incidence of depression in the legal profession is around two to four times the rate of the general population, with lawyers the most depressed out of 105 professions surveyed.

The Premier of NSW, the Honourable Morris Iemma MP, launched the lecture which was jointly hosted by the Faculties of Law at UNSW and UTS, in partnership with the Tristan Jepson Memorial Fund, established by George and Marie Jepson in memory of their son, a much-loved law student and lawyer.
